How to Germinate Cereal Milk Seeds

Germinating Cereal Milk feminized seeds (or any weed seeds for that matter) can be done in a few different ways, but for the highest chance of 100% germination success, we recommend a slightly more involved process than just dropping them into the ground and praying to the ganja gods.

Sure, it takes a little more care and attention than nature's way, but it's not like it's rocket science or anything. And all you need is some room-temperature water (that has been pH regulated), a Tupperware container, and some napkins. Easy.

1. First things first, let's soak the seeds for between 6 to 12 hours - By leaving the seeds in water that has been pH adjusted to 5.5 to 6.5, the shell will soften considerably, making it much easier for the plant embryo to break free of its woody shell. Never leave the seeds to soak for more than 12 hours, as this can lead to seed death.
2. Wet those napkins - Always use unbleached napkins that are completely fragrance-free. The last thing you want to do is add any extra chemicals to the germination process.
3. Squeeze the napkins out - You want napkins (or kitchen towel) that are moist without being dripping wet.
4. Grab your Tupperware container - this will act as your germination chamber. Cover the bottom of the container with your moist napkins, and carefully place your seeds down onto their damp napkin bed. Leave a bit of space in between each seed, and cover them over with another moist napkin.
5. ALWAYS USE SEPARATE CONTAINERS FOR DIFFERENT STRAINS - One very common mistake that novice growers make is mixing seeds up. Always use different containers for different strains, and label them carefully.
6. Close the containers - Light is a germinating biggest nemesis, so if you can find light-proof containers then definitely use them. No huge issue if you only have a transparent option, just make sure to place it in a lightproof cupboard or drawer.
7. Temperature control is key - The temperature that your seeds are subjected to during the germination process is absolutely vital. You want temperatures to consistently stay between 75°F to 85°F
8. Check the seeds every day - Some seeds may sprout within 24 hours, while others can take up to 5 or so days. Make sure the napkins don't dry out, and if they do use a water mister to gently re-moisten them with pH-regulated water.
9. Get planting - Once the tap root grows to around half an inch, it's time to get the seeds into the substrate. Fill your pits with whatever growing media you have chosen to use, make a small indentation in the middle of the pot, and get the seeds in. Cover them carefully without packing the soil down too heavily, and give them a very light watering.

Why are Feminized Cereal Milk Seeds Better than Regs?

Good question, and easily answered.

Male seeds do not grow flowers, instead producing pollen sacs. Regular seed packs will contain, (on average) an even split of both male and female seeds - and there is no way to tell them apart from one another.

There are only really two instances where you should consider buying regular seeds…

• If feminized seeds are not available for the strain you are wanting to grow, or
• If you are wanting to try your hand at cannabis breeding

It's the ladies that grow the buds, and so the vast majority of cultivators should be looking to only grow feminized seeds. Without the backing of lab testing, there is no way to distinguish male and female plants from each other until the pre-flowers start to form, and (depending on the style of cultivation) this can be weeks or even months down the line from germination. That's a lot of time and effort down the drain for no reward, and actually an increased level of risk.

If male plants are present and left to their own devices, they will pollinate the females and ruin your crop of flowers - not ideal whatsoever, as this takes vital energy away from flower growth and focuses it on seed production.

Feminized seeds offer a guaranteed all-female crop, and so make for far easier cultivation than dealing with regular seeds.

What is coco-coir, and why is it a great growing medium?

Coco-coir is made from the fiber of coconut husks, and can hold up to 7 times its own weight in water while also offering much higher levels of root zone oxygenation and drainage than traditional soil blends. Coco-coir is the perfect middle ground between soil and hydroponic cultivation styles and can help you grow bigger buds with very little extra effort.

The Best Climate for Cereal Milk Feminized Seeds

This hardy, robust strain will grow well in a pretty wide range of climatic conditions, but for the fastest and strongest growth outdoors, you’re looking for constant temperate days and nights throughout your growing season (68 - 86°F with 60% relative humidity for the seedling and vegetative growth stages, and a little lower moisture when flowering growth fully kicks in).

This hybrid strain tends to thrive in a warm, dry climate where it can receive plenty of sunlight and avoid excess moisture.

Problems to Look Out For When Growing Feminized Cereal Milk Seeds

Like all cannabis plants, Cereal Milk Feminized seeds can encounter a range of issues during their lifetime. The most common issues that novice growers usually run into are overfeeding and over-watering, and this makes perfect sense.

More food + more water = more buds, right?

Wrong!

In fact, often the opposite is true. When it comes to feeding and watering, less really is more for your Cereal Milk strain plants, especially in the first month or so. By letting the soil or coco-coir dry out between waterings, you encourage the root system to grow out and become more fibrous, resulting in a much healthier plant with increased nutrient uptake efficiency. Also, always start out with around 1/3 to 1.2 of the recommended nutrient doses and then begin to slowly increase them to reduce any chances of nutrient toxicity.

Nutrient deficiencies are also something to be aware of, and so is the correct pH range for your style of cultivation. Always ensure that the pH range is between 5.5 to 6.5 for coco and hydro, or 6.0 to 7.0 for soil. That means pH regulating all water and nutrient solution you are providing to the crop and checking the EC or TDS to make sure it is correct. You should also be doing regular pH checks of the runoff from the pots, so you have a clear idea of the pH range in the root zone.

Then we have fungal and pest issues. While Cereal Milk Feminized does come with high levels of natural resistance to most of these annoyances, there is no guarantee that your crop will be completely safe.

Always keep an eye out for signs of powdery mildew, and use a preventative neem oil spray program to make sure no problems arise. Food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE) is another great pest prevention tool that can cheaply and easily be added to any grow room or garden.

Additionally, make sure your grow space is well-ventilated, as this will also help reduce the chances of fungal infestations. Certain training techniques can massively boost the air exchange in the plant canopy, but more on this a little further down.

In the current age of cannabis exploration, it can feel like a new stress training method or growing technique is being touted as the ‘latest and greatest’ almost every other day. Don’t fall into this trap of over-complication! Simple, proven techniques will work wonders, such as...

Super Cropping

This training technique involves gently bending and stressing the main stem and larger branches of your plants, which will cause them to repair themselves and grow to a thicker width, while providing more growth hormone and nutrient density to the flowering sites on the branch that has been super cropped.

To perform safe and effective super cropping, choose only the larger, healthier branches. It is best to start near the bottom of the branch, and slowly work your way, stopping 3 nodes from tip. Using your index finger and thumb, gently apply pressure to the branch until you feel a slight popping. Then, using the other hand, bend the branch at a 90-degree angle away from its natural growth direction. If you mess up and break the outer layer of the branch, wrap it up in some tape.

You should start to see results within a few days, with the thicker stalk and branches helping to support larger yields during the flowering phase.

Topping

The main idea behind topping any plant is to increase the total number of colas (buds) that a single plant can grow. By removing the growth tip just above the node (the node is where the new branches are forming), you encourage the growth of additional branches and sites for bud formation.

Topping should be done during the vegging phase, and not before 3 nodes have developed. All you have to do is take a clean, sterile razor or pair of scissors and cut the main stem just above the third or fourth node. You can also top a few of the main branches, but keep in mind that this technique places the plant under considerable stress, so you do not want to overdo it.

Topping not only increases the number of main colas but also breaks the apical dominance (that Christmas tree shape that cannabis plants naturally form), leading to a more even canopy with improved air exchange and light penetration.

ScrOG

The Screen of Green (ScrOG) technique, as the name suggests, involves using a mesh screen to force the plant to develop a flat, evenly horizontal canopy and is the perfect follow-up to topping. By placing a screen or net over the plant, and tieing the branches to the screen, cannabis plants will form a single-layer canopy which allows for the most even light penetration, and in the process, you can really open up the canopy for even better air exchange.

The ScrOG technique is particularly useful for those growers working with limited space, as it allows you to get the most out of your plants by filling every square inch of grow space with dense colas.

Sea of Green

The Sea of Green technique, or SOG, is a low-stress training technique that grows many small Cereal Milk weed plants simultaneously instead of a few larger plants. Sea of Green is based on the notion that if Cereal Milk plants in a confined space are pressed into blooming early, they only need to expand to half their size to sustain cola or bud development. The advantages of using the Sea of Green technique are:
